Hello Vishnu

Regret silence as I had a minor surgery done recently, hence indisposed.
I am enclosing foll photos and brief memoirs which you may find interesting.

1. Here I am taking oath with torch in hand at the begining of sports week on 2nd march 1961 (long time back indeed)
I remember I was in Jyoti house, other was Shakti house. I wonder if these houses are still there.
I must boastfully admit that I was the best sportsman for 3 years. In fact I was a member of Delhi State schools Basketball team
alongwith 2 other Patelians and many DIPsites. I came 3rd in long Jump and 1st first in High Jump event of Delhi State
olympics Jr.in 1961 When my name came in the papers next day Patelians esp the Principal Raghubhai were all surprised and
happy, as this was first time SPV was mentioned in the papers. I narrowly missed out in Delhi Schools Cricket team but my
close friend Vivek Mathur was selected. I had met Vivek (now retired Colonel) recently after a gap of abt 40 yrs.

2. The 2nd photo is taken on a day called student teachers day (I am not too sure) I was obviously sports teacher (with my back)
Gurinder Pal Singh Narula (Academically the best) is the principal and Arun Seth I think was secretary. Arun is my sister in laws
brother and we meet often, recently at his sons wedding. Gurinder was a great friend of mine, he is in Bangkok. I had met him
recently after also abt. 38 years. Thanks to him I was reasonable in my studies.

3. My passport size photos of 1962 and 2006

I remember that the T.V. had just been launched, abt 1960. One was placed in the school library and everyday in the evening the students staying nearby, including me, would excitedly crowd the library and  Mr. Pathak ( he was obviously very young and enthusiastic) would adjust and tune and we would watch anything boring that used to come.

I remember the beautiful morning prayers and moral lectures given by Raghubhai. We had some nice teachers like Kamalbhai,
Mr. M.L.Sharma, Mr. Thapar, Mr. S.C.Sharma, Ghanshambhai (sports teacher). Jashibhen the vice principal was a fine lady too.
I must admit that Raghubhai was a very strict principal and the students and staff were quite scared of him.

While I am writing my memory is getting loaded with a lot what we used to do, really I could go on and on

Finally when we left, there was something nice that the school did. Outline of India map was drawn on the ground and all the students passing out stood on the border. Mr. M.L.Sharma while paying tributes to some students, ( I was also fortunate to be mentioned by him), he said, today you are standing on the outline of India, and it is your duty to protect and look after your motherland. Value of this lecture we admired in later years of life.

After SPV I joined Training Ship Dufferin (62-64) in Mumbai and and continued in the merchant Navy till early 80's. From 84 to 02
I was working in Delhi with different shipping companies and decided to quit in sept. 2002. I have a son and a daughter and have 3 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. My son with his 2 boys is in U.S.
At 62 years I am taking it a little easy and doing some consultancy work in shipping.

It was nice to share my experience with you.
